Special Initiatives

We partner with a variety of organizations, all working towards a shared mission of building thriving business with smallholder women coffee farmers. We take pride in collaborating with globally recognized organizations to achieve this important goal.

  • Women's Empowerment Coalition (WECO)

Since 2021, we've teamed up with Women’s Empowerment Coalition (WECO) to support ASIPROFE, a women-led association of coffee farmers in the La Legua de Asseri region of Costa Rica. Together, we're enhancing economic opportunities for women in their community through grants, capacity building, and increased market access.

  • Amigos de las Américas

Since 2021, we've been offering a Community Immersion program for youth from around the world. Participants have the opportunity to travel, stay with a host family, and learn about our work and its impact firsthand.

  • Gender Policy in Coffee

In 2021, we conducted research and co-authored the inaugural Gender Policy in Coffee for Costa Rica in partnership with the Coffee Institute of Costa Rica (ICAFE).

This extensive document outlines guidelines addressing significant gaps encountered by smallholder women coffee farmers and women throughout the coffee value chain. Furthermore, it presents key policy recommendations and actionable steps for national and regional entities to implement, aiming to diminish the gender disparity within coffee farming communities.

  • Stronger Than Coffee

In 2020, we initiated a partnership with Needle + Frame, uniting five producers from Bean Voyage's cohorts for an engaging participatory storytelling project.

With cameras in hand, five Costa Rican women share their experiences and challenges as coffee producers in an industry that frequently overlooks their contributions. "Stronger Than Coffee" (known as "Más que un café" in Spanish) comprises five short films entirely narrated by these women, offering an authentic glimpse into the lives of those who cultivate the world's coffee.
