mentorship

Lack of feminist leadership and mentorship has limited women’s ability to thrive, and creating an enabling environment for women’s participation is imperative for sustainable impact.

As part of our mentorship & advocacy initiatives, we work closely with various local and international actors to ensure greater representation and resources for smallholder women in local governance.

In 2021,
we led two projects to advocate for greater inclusion and participation of women:

  • Self-directed Participatory Documentary Project with Needle and Frame

  • Costa Rica’s First Participatory Gender Policy in Coffee with ICAFE and IICA

Storytelling as Advocacy

This project is led in collaboration with Needle and Frame, a non-profit artist and storyteller collective that is providing 5 smallholder women coffee producers with training in storytelling, filming, and editing. The finished documentary will be screened at the industry- and government-level events to amplify women’s voices.

Gender Policy in Coffee

In partnership with Triptico, we are researching and drafting Costa Rica’s first Gender Policy in Coffee to be adopted by the Coffee Institute of Costa Rica (ICAFE).
The project has been supported by ICAFE and IICA, and estimated to be completed by October 2021.
