Meet Taty Vargas

Tatiana is a smallholder coffee producer from the El Guarco area of Cartago, Costa Rica.

When her father, Don Gerardo, passed away in 2016, she and her mother, Doña Leda, decided to manage and work on the farm that the family had put so much effort into establishing.

Don Gerardo always had the dream of starting a micro-mill and exporting his own coffee, but cancer prevented him from achieving this.

Tatiana and her mother strove to make this of his dream come true, and in 2018 they opened a micro-mill and founded their own coffee brand, Legados Café Artesanal.

For both of them, coffee is so much more than just producing coffee: it is inviting others to fill each cup to the brim with emotions and memories, and it is a way to keep the memory of a loved one alive.

Story written by Tatiana Vargas and translated by Alice Mee.
