MEET
Cenorina colorado Hernández
Cenorina turned her curiosity about bees into a thriving family project, showing how one small idea can ripple into community impact.
Her journey
Coffee has been the rhythm of Cenorina’s life since childhood. She learned to prune, graft, and care for coffee plants from her family, absorbing a tradition that was as much about pride as it was about survival. But she carried another dream quietly: working with bees, inspired by the hives she had watched in her coffee fields for years. She lacked the tools, knowledge, and capital to make it a reality—until Farmer School arrived.
“Building the module was challenging, especially transporting materials, but with my children’s help, we made it happen. Now the bees are arriving, and my vision is becoming real.”
A Journey of Growth
Through Farmer School, Cenorina learned how to turn her dream into an actionable project. She received mentorship in small-scale enterprise management, sustainable farming practices, and project design. With guidance, she built a beekeeping module, coordinating her children and spouse to transport materials and prepare the space for its first colonies. “The program helped my dream become reality. I learned that with support, planning, and family collaboration, I could take my ideas from imagination to action.”

Transformation
Cenorina’s apiary is now operational, a living example of intergenerational collaboration. Her children help daily, learning responsibility and pride in contributing to a productive, sustainable venture. The honey is initially for family use, but it lays the groundwork for future sales and local engagement. “Building the module was challenging, especially transporting materials, but with my children’s help, we made it happen. Now the bees are arriving, and my vision is becoming real.”
Looking Ahead
Cenorina dreams of expanding her apiary, adding more hives, and supplying local markets with honey. She aims to continue learning advanced beekeeping techniques and hopes her project will serve as a model for other women farmers in the region.
