Beatriz Quirós Fonseca

For Beatriz, every detail of her rural tourism project is about comfort, care, and creating a warm space for visitors—while building her own independence and dreams.

Her journey

Beatriz Quirós from San Jerónimo de Pérez Zeledón joined Bean Voyage after seeing how it helped her sister-in-law. She was motivated both by the support it offered and the joy of learning through the courses and field trips.

“Everything about the program was so beautiful—the courses, the trips. I would do it again if I could,” she shares.

She used her seed capital to build a new bathroom for her cabin, improving comfort for visitors. The process was challenging: transporting tiles up the steep path, stretching her budget, and coordinating labor around her husband’s schedule.

“Everything happened—trucks didn’t make it up the hill, materials had to be moved bit by bit—but it’s moving forward, slowly but surely,” Beatriz explains.

“I like to dream, I like things to be beautiful. Bean Voyage helped me start making those dreams real,” she says.

Key Learnings

Beatriz values the field trips most, where she connected with other women and saw what’s possible when sharing ideas and effort. The program opened her mind to new possibilities for her business and motivated her to continue improving her space.

“Bean Voyage gave us the opportunity, the training, and helped us see that we can do it. We were given 250,000 colones—who gives that away? And the learning was priceless,” she says.

Transformation

Her project is already changing the visitor experience, allowing groups to enjoy the cabin comfortably. Beatriz is also planning further improvements: a personal room, a better kitchen and dining area, and more functional and attractive spaces for guests.
