We are currently registering travelers to join us on our exciting and informative trip to Costa Rica in partnership with Brighton Jones.
This trip is for you if you are passionate about supporting women-led farms and learning about coffee production while also immersing yourself in the culture, cuisine, and beauty that the country has to offer.
Moreover, we will delve into the realm of international development and humanitarian aid, uncovering best practices that have a lasting impact today and for the future. Share your interest and be part of the conversation. We look forward to hearing from you!
Day 1 - Sunday, March 10
Depart from the US | Travelers will book their own international flights from their home city to San Jose, Costa Rica – Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). We will work with you to provide booking tips and coordinate arrival times. For those arriving earlier in the day, we will have a casual meet and greet with the Bean Voyage team, and a chance to explore local specialty cafes with the team!
You will be greeted by our driver and transported to Hotel Grano de Oro or Gran Hotel, San Jose (TBD)

Day 4 - Wednesday, March 13

Day 6 - Friday, March 15

Coffee farm visit in Cartago | After having breakfast at the hotel, we will get on a bus to spend a whole day on a coffee farm, learning about coffee production, processing, and tasting from a smallholder coffee farming family. Wear something comfortable, expect a short hike and pick coffee cherries, see the processing station, and partake in coffee tasting!
We will stay at Hotel Grano de Oro or Gran Hotel, San Jose. (TBD)
Women’s coffee processing center in Asseri | After having breakfast, we will have a half-day visit to a processing and roasting center run by one of two women’s coffee associations in Costa Rica. We will learn about coffee production, processing, roasting, and tasting. We will also discuss challenges that they face, and how by organizing in an association, they have been able to navigate the challenges.
After the visit in Asseri, we will embark on journey towards Tarrazu, the coffee capital of Costa Rica. (travel time, 1 hour). We will stay in a humble lodge and start early the next morning for a Quetzal tour.
Coffee production deep dive in Tarrazu | After the Quetzal tour early morning, participate to pick coffee cherries and coffee processing and enjoy the different landscapes of Tarrazu (mountainous). Be prepared to sit in the back of a pick-up truck and pick coffee cherries! We will also roast the coffee and cup* it with the producers who produced them!
* cupping is a professional way of evaluating coffee quality.
After spending a half day with the producers, we will travel to Manuel Antonio National Park.
Stay at Si Como No Resort or similar.
Spend a day at the Manuel Antonio National Park | Visit the large and beautiful National Park with a beach and hiking option! Spend time walking around spotting monkeys, sloths, and other animals, and also swim on the serene Pacific beach hidden inside the Park!

Explore the town & activity day in Manuel Antonio and Quepos | You can spend another day hiking at the National Park, or visit the public beach in town! Explore the beautiful town, try out the delicious local dish, and be part of the vibrant towns of Manuel Antonio and Quepos. In the afternoon, we will organize a local cuisine-making workshop to make tortillas and other delicious local cuisine, and/or you could go on a zip-line tour of the canopy!
Stay at Si Como No Resort or similar.
Depart or Extend | In the afternoon, we'll either catch our flights from San Jose, Costa Rica – Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) or, you can choose to stay longer! If you are choosing to stay longer, we recommend either going south to Uvita & Dominical (for its beautiful serene Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, or going north to Arenal and staying at Tabacon for the hot spring!)

Arrive in the United States | Welcome home!
Throughout your journey, you will have the unique opportunity to visit two farms and micro mills, which are part of the bean voyage's extensive network, located in two distinct regions of Costa Rica.
Immerse yourself in the world of coffee as you savor the flavors of the latest harvests and spend a day with dedicated producers and their families, gaining insights into their captivating stories.
Moreover, we will venture into the breathtaking landscapes of the country, from majestic volcanoes to enchanting waterfalls and stunning beaches. Our itinerary also includes a visit to a Wildlife Rescue Center, where you will witness firsthand the admirable conservation initiatives that Costa Rica proudly implements.
